Pruning is the difference between a tree that adds value to a property for fifty years and one that becomes a removal invoice after the next ice storm. Done correctly, it improves structure, reduces failure risk, opens light to the lawn beneath, and keeps limbs off roofs, gutters, and service lines.
Done incorrectly — topping, lion-tailing, flush cuts — it permanently weakens a tree and produces weakly attached regrowth that fails first in a wind event. We prune to industry standard: correct cuts outside the branch collar, no topping, and never more live canopy removed than the tree can carry.
What's included
What Our Tree Trimming & Pruning Covers
Timing matters in Tennessee
Heavy structural pruning belongs in the dormant fall and winter window. Summer heat plus a large live-wood reduction stresses a tree badly, and we'll tell you when it's better to wait.
Crown cleaning / deadwooding
Removing dead, dying, diseased, and crossing limbs — the highest-value pruning dollar you can spend on a mature tree.
Crown raising
Lifting the lower canopy for driveway, mower, walkway, and sight-line clearance without gutting the tree.
Structure and roof clearance
Limbs off shingles, chimneys, and second-story windows to stop abrasion damage and roof moss.
View and light pruning
Selective reduction to open a lake, ridge, or pasture view — see the before-and-after view work in our gallery.
Storm-risk reduction
Reducing end weight on over-extended limbs before the ice arrives, not after.
How it works
Our Process, Step by Step
- 1.Walk the property and agree on objectives — clearance, health, view, or risk.
- 2.Written scope naming each tree and the specific cuts.
- 3.Climbing or bucket access, rigging over anything breakable.
- 4.Cuts made to standard: no topping, no stubs, no flush cuts.
- 5.All brush chipped and hauled, lawn blown clean.

Questions
Tree Trimming & Pruning FAQs
What time of year should trees be trimmed?
Fall and winter for anything structural. Summer trimming is fine for clearance and deadwood, but heavy live-wood cuts in July heat can kill a tree — we'll advise honestly rather than sell you the wrong-season job.
Do you top trees?
No. Topping is a discredited practice that creates decay and weak regrowth. We do proper crown reduction instead, which achieves the same size goal without ruining the tree.
Will you clean up the brush?
Always. Chipping and haul-off is included in every trimming price we quote.
